Breath and heartbeat is the primary sign of life. It makes 100% sense to develop breath awareness and techniques above everything else to improve vitality and quality of life. Without breath there is no life – human beings are breathers!

Breathing is one of the Essentials of Effective Yoga and the second Key in my book Five Keys to Well-being.
The first key is “Posture” as it makes effective breathing possible.
The third and fourth keys are mobility and stress release. Both are vastly improved with good posture and efficient breathing. All of this enhances movement, exercise, relaxation/rejuvenation, and everything else, including effective breathing and stress release. A positive feedback loop. The fifth key is awareness and lifestyle, including meditation.
Basic breathing practices and pranayama, advanced yogic breathing, is a cornerstone of all yoga practice. This is why breath is a central aspect of all three parts of the yoga trinity of body, mind and spirit. Well-being, health of the being, is based on the whole being, holistic health.
