A healthy attraction – natural balance with yoga

green tea yoga studio cape townBreakfast this morning was a healthy one. Last night my body asked “please don’t give me coffee for breakfast, I’d like some simple, cleansing energy”.

Vibrant colours are more lively than muted tones, that was the vibration my body asked for: fresh produce and hydration with vibrant life force. I started the day with lemon juice water and a few minutes breathing practice, a few stretches, green tea and papaya a bit later, and after an hour, beetroot, celery and ginger juice, and more green tea. I felt clean, focussed, energised.

Attract natural balance

We often persist with foods that don’t serve us well. Sure, to avoid less healthy foods at all times is not easy. But rather than give up on healthy eating, or getting stuck in a madly rigid health regimen, aim for balance of beneficial, okay and not-so-great (avoid outright junk). Know that pizza is not great for your body, but understand that sharing one on occasion, or having a party snack, is unlikely to kill you straight away.

Develop a healthy relationship with food. Avoid binge junk eating and binge healthy eating. When you drink a second coffee, have an extra glass of water. When you consume excessive quantities of anything that does not sit well in your system, check in with yourself that you take responsibility for your choices and manage the situation best as you can. Let go of guilt and self-mutelation. Keep the bigger picture in mind and steer yourself back to balance:

Keep doing yoga, and develop a healthy balance

In yoga we learn awareness, of all things, and about the interplay of energies. The message is “to know what is good for one” and what to do to develop balanced living. A default setting with yoga as a lifestyle anchor gradually evolves, to counter the jaded tiredness and manic business of everyday life. The more you do yoga regularly, the more you dip into the source of well-being it provides. Yoga gives us an inner experience of the magnificence of our being, how precious life is, and how we can learn to live in our divine essence.

I did have coffee and toast (with salad) at midday. So I took a glass of kombucha to the studio for the evening class.
Let your yoga practice be the voice of your consciousness 🙂
