In a living body breath is the vital sign of life. Without breath there is no life. It makes 100% sense to develop breath awareness and techniques above everything else to improve vitality and quality of life.
Breathing is one of the Essentials of Effective Yoga and the second Key in my book Five Keys to Well-being. The first key is “Posture” as it makes effective breathing possible. The third and fourth keys are mobility and stress release, both enhance movement, exercise, relaxation/rejuvenation and everything else including effective breathing. The fifth key is awareness and lifestyle, including meditation.
Breath is a central aspect of all three parts of the yoga trinity of body, mind and spirit. Basic breathing practices and pranayama, advanced yogic breathing, is a cornerstone of all yoga practice.
